The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is gearing up for a fiercely contested battle for the 2028 presidential flagbearer position, as prominent figures within the party signal their intentions to vie for the nomination.

Among the key contenders is Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis, former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, who underscored the critical nature of the decision ahead.

“The stakes are high for the 2028 presidential flagbearer position in the SLPP,” Tunis stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the progress achieved under President Julius Maada Bio’s administration. He urged that the party must select a candidate who is committed to advancing national progress, warning against any moves that might undermine SLPP’s achievements.

Tunis commended SLPP members for their contributions to national development, noting that it is essential to keep the party on a trajectory of growth rather than allowing personal ambitions to compromise its future. According to Tunis, the selection process should prioritize the party’s stability and the country’s future, highlighting that the candidate “must be the fittest” for both the party and Sierra Leone.

The competition for the SLPP flagbearer role is expected to be intense, with other potential candidates anticipated to announce their intentions in the coming months.
