The Chairperson and Spokesperson of Wi-Duti – The Lappa Movement, Zanib Sheriff, has publicly ruled out First Lady Fatima Maada Bio and Dr. Sylvia Blyden from the movement’s consideration for a future female presidential candidate in Sierra Leone.

Speaking during a recent engagement, Sheriff said neither of the two prominent women meets the movement’s criteria for integrity and leadership, stressing that integrity remains a core value guiding Wi-Duti – The Lappa Movement’s search for a suitable female leader.

“I don’t really feel they have the integrity it takes to do this job,” Sheriff stated.

Her remarks have generated public debate, given the high-profile status of both women in Sierra Leone’s political and public life. First Lady Fatima Maada Bio is widely known for her advocacy on gender equality and women’s empowerment, while Dr. Sylvia Blyden is a seasoned journalist and former minister with a long history in public discourse.

Wi-Duti – The Lappa Movement has positioned itself as a platform advocating for accountable, ethical, and people-centred leadership, with a strong focus on encouraging women’s participation in national politics. Sheriff emphasized that the movement remains committed to identifying a candidate whose values align with transparency, integrity, and national interest.

The comments have drawn mixed reactions from the public, with some supporters applauding the movement’s firm stance on standards, while critics argue that the remarks could deepen political divisions.
