The Sierra Leone Premier League 2022/2023 season has proven beyond reasonable doubts to be one of its kind in the history of Sierra Leone Football.
As the league kicked-off on Friday 9th December, 2022, with the defending champions against the newly promoted team to Premier League, Real Republicans, it gave tempo and spiced the league as the defending champions struggled to survive a draw with the newly promoted team, Real Republicans at the Bo Stadium, Bo.
This match kick-off astonished fans of Bo Rangers but pleased the opponent for such victory against the defending champions. Many predicted the match to be a clear win for Bo Rangers FC but as football is sometimes unpredictable, you have to expect the unexpected. Therefore Bo Rangers FC had to fight for a draw against Real Republicans.
Following the remaining matches that played on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December, this year, matches anticipated to have become a clear win for the big and well known Premier League teams came out as draw, and some of these matches were even tough for big teams as they narrowly escape to secure a point before the referees called the games to an end.
Bai Bureh Warriors FC clashed with FC Kallon in Port Loko. The match had some controversies before the referee called of the first half. It was an anticipated win match for FC Kallon but the warriors of Port Loko performed outstandingly well for Port Loko that the draw was seen as a victory for them. The match ended at 2:2 draw.
East End Lions on the other side of Port Loko, Lungi, clashed with newly promoted team Lamboi FC and the Killers proved to strong for their counterpart. With team spirit and good formation, backed with experience, East End Lions thrashed Lamboi FC 3 goals to 1. This confortable win of the Killers earned them the first position in week 1 table.
In Koidu City, Kono, Diamond Stars locked horns with Freetown City FC at the Koidu City field yesterday 11th December, 2022. The match ended a 2:0 victory in favour of Diamond Stars. This win earned them second position of the league’s table with 3 and 2 goals to their name.
In Magburaka, Tonkolili, East End Tigers suffered a 1:2 defeat against Central Parade FC and earned third place in the table.
The remaining matches of the week ended with both teams sharing a point. The week one has definitely proven unpredictable and displayed the strength of the newly promoted teams to the competition which were underated when they clash with big Premier League teams.
