Sierra Leonean Forward and Birmingham Legion FC’s new signing, Mohamed Buya Turay scored his first goal for the club on his debut, a preseason match against Nashville SC on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Sierra Leone international, signed just last month from Danish club Odense, found the back of the net during the first half, putting the USL Championship side ahead in their friendly encounter.

Teammate Enzo Martinez joined Turay in celebrating the crucial goal, which gave Birmingham a temporary lead before ultimately falling to Nashville 3-2.

Turay’s arrival has generated significant excitement among Legion fans, hoping he can bolster the team’s attacking prowess in the upcoming 2024 USL Championship season. The club finished seventh in the league last year and is aiming to climb the standings with the addition of the talented striker.

“We’re thrilled to see Mohamed hit the ground running,” said Birmingham Legion FC Head Coach Marko Špilarić. “His goal against Nashville was a glimpse of what he can bring to our team. We’re confident he’ll continue to score goals and contribute to our success this season.”

With the USL Championship season kicking off in March, all eyes will be on Turay to see if he can continue his goalscoring form and help Birmingham Legion FC achieve their ambitions.
