Former Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) president Isha Johansen has lost her seat on the FIFA Council following a vote at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo.

Johansen, who made history as the first female FA president to be elected to the FIFA Council in March 2021, received only seven votes in the recent election. Fouzi Lekjaa secured the most votes with 49, while other candidates also surpassed Johansen’s total.

Johansen’s election to the FIFA Council in 2021, during the 43rd CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco, was a landmark achievement. She served as SLFA president from 2013 to 2021 and held various positions within FIFA and CAF, including: Member, FIFA Council; Member, CAF Executive Committee; Vice Chairman, CAF Women’s Organizing Committee and Member, FIFA Foundation Board

Johansen is recognized for her significant contributions to African football administration during her 18-year career.

The FIFA Council, consisting of 37 members elected for renewable four-year terms, is responsible for key decision-making between FIFA Congress meetings.

In a related development, Patrice Motsepe was re-elected as president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a second term.
