FC Kallon will host Niger’s AS Douanes in the first and second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary qualifiers at the Southern Arena in Bo district.
The first leg will take place on the 27th of August 2023 at the Southern Arena, and the return leg is scheduled for the 1st of September 2023.
The decision came as a result of the current political instability in Niger. The country’s political history since independence has been volatile with military coups, interspersed with civilian governments. Since 2010 the country has been stable politically, despite two failed military coups. The current president, Mohamed Bazoum, was democratically elected in April 2021. He was overthrown by the presidential guard on July 26, 2023.
The Southern Arena is a private stadium owned by a Sierra Leonean businessman, Babadi Kamara.
The 6,000-capacity stadium recently hosted Rangers Clash against Liberia’s LISCR FC in the CAF Preliminary Champions League Qualifiers.
The stadium has facilities like offices, restaurant, a lounge, and several technical spaces, with a football academy holding up to 30 players outside the stadium in Bo City.
