UK-born Sierra Leone midfielder Kamil Amadu Conteh has reportedly gone more than a year without support or reimbursement from the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) after sustaining a serious injury while playing for the Leone Stars on 10 September 2024 in a crucial match against Zambia.

Conteh, who plays as a midfielder for Bristol Rovers in England’s League Two, was injured while representing Sierra Leone and later returned to the United Kingdom for treatment.

According to information provided in the report, the SLFA asked him to cover the cost of his return trip himself – an expense he reportedly agreed to shoulder with the understanding that he would be refunded.

However, the report states that 441 days have passed, and Conteh has still not received the promised refund from the SLFA. It also notes that he has not been called up to the national team since the incident.

The situation has prompted concerns about the level of support provided to national players who sustain injuries while representing Sierra Leone.

The report expresses the view that players “put their bodies on the line” for the country and deserve professional and respectful treatment from football authorities.

As of the time of reporting, the SLFA has not publicly responded to the claims outlined in the account.
