The much-anticipated opening match of the Sierra Leone Premier League 2024-2025 season took place on December 20, 2024 at the Port Loko Mini Stadium.

Marking a momentous occasion for local football fans and athletes alike, the grand ceremony featured an exciting clash between Bai Bureh Warriors and Lauwa FC, in front of a packed crowd of passionate supporters and distinguished sports personalities.

The event, which was attended by key figures from the footballing community, including the Premier League Board Chairman, coaches, and former team players, was a vibrant celebration of Sierra Leone’s love for the sport.

The opening ceremony was marked by colorful speeches highlighting the importance of sports in fostering unity, peace, and national pride. Chairman of the board highlighted constant fixture, training of match commissioners, holding engagement with refferes, and promising actions against any misconduct by refferes as unique features of this season’s competitions.

Bai Bureh Warriors, supported by a roaring home crowd suffered a defeat by 1 goal to nil in the hands of Lauwa FC.

Expressing his feelings about the match, Hassan Millar, Bai Bureh Warriors head coach said, “I don’t feel happy because this is my first match” he added that, his boys did well “but we are not on the locky side today.”

However, Ibrahim Sillah head coach of Lauwa FC. Expressed happiness and emphasized on concentration by his boys as the secret to their victory. “I believe that we were concentrated and ensure that we prevent our opponent through our defense.” Sillah established.
