The Sierra Leone Premier League Board has postponed all matches for week 27 in the ongoing top tier competition.
“The Board wishes to inform Premier League clubs and the public that the matches scheduled for week 27 (May 20-21, 2023) have been postponed indefinitely,” the Board said.
They added that a date and time for matches on the said date will be announced “in due course”.
Some local football fans are unpleased with the Board’s decision to suspend the League. They are alleging that the suspension is to allow a competition organised by Bo Rangers as part of the opening of their ultra-modern stadium, Southern Arena.
This suspicion further heightened after second place team in the League, East End Lions made it public that they will be participating in a three-day competition organised to open the Southern Arena.
“We have accepted an invitation to participate in a 3-day Mini Football Tournament in Bo City from 19-21 May 2023 to mark official opening of the Southern Arena Stadium,” Lions said on their official Facebook page.
Sierraloaded has learnt that other Premier League clubs that will be participating the tournament include Bai Bureh Warriors, Wusum Stars, Kamboi Eagles and Bo Rangers.
