The Sierra Leone Football Association has updated the Public that the Project Manager of Edel Grass- Mark Jonkers who is overseeing the ongoing FIFA Artificial Turf Pitches construction in Sierra Leone has yesterday Tuesday January 23 revealed that the SLFA Academy and the Port Loko playing fields are set to soon turn green, citing February ending as the deadline for completion of work.
According to SLFA, Jonkers made this statement while giving a progress report on the projects, during a meeting with the SLFA Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson and other senior SLFA Officials at the Secretariat in Freetown.
Mark Jonkers further said that all the necessary equipment has been safely shipped into the country and that work is currently being expedited at the various sites, including SLFA Academy Field, Approved School Field, Port Loko Town Field and Bo Coronation Field to ensure a successful completion soonest.
“Our convenient deadline for all pitches to be fully ready with all floodlights and perimeter fences installed is by the end of March this year”, Jonkers further assured the Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson.
Also part of the ongoing projects is the rehabilitation of turf and installation of perimeter fence and floodlights at the Koidu Town Field in Kono, whiles the Kenema Town Field will also get standard floodlights.
The SLFA Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson thanked Mark and his Edel Grass Construction team for the great job done so far and most importantly for upholding their established timelines in carrying out their activities in Sierra Leone.
The Sierra Leone Football Association Artificial Turf construction project recently received a significant boost following the arrivals of containers filled with working materials on Tuesday January 9, at the SLFA Academy at Kingtom, Freetown.
With support from FIFA, SLFA is simultaneously and expeditiously constructing five top-notch playing facilities across Sierra Leone (SLFA Academy, Approved School Field, Port Loko Field, and Bo Coronation Field) to help defeat the longstanding problem of infrastructure in the country’s football.
The said projects, upon completion, will see a full package of a state-of-the-art artificial turf, floodlight, perimeter fence, 100KVA generator, and 100-seater pavilion at the SLFA Academy Field, Approved School Field, Port Loko Town Field, and Bo Coronation Field.
