The reigning champions of Sierra Leone’s female top-tier league, Mogbwemo Queens Football Club, are back in action as they kick off preparations for the upcoming league season.
The squad has reconvened after a three-month recess following their spirited participation in the 2023 CAF Champions League WAFU Zonal qualifiers, held at the SKD Complex in Liberia in August.
One notable highlight is the team’s strengthened roster. The management of Mogbwemo Queens FC has invested in bolstering the squad that clinched the maiden 2022/23 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League title. This strategic reinforcement includes the return of the sensational goalkeeper Mawa Traoré, who represented Guinea in the World Cup and Olympic qualifiers. Her return adds depth and quality to an already formidable team.
The atmosphere within the camp is filled with determination and enthusiasm as the players and coaching staff are tirelessly working towards their goal of retaining the league title. The team is currently engaged in intensive training sessions, honing their skills and tactics in preparation for the upcoming season.
The only piece of the puzzle that remains is the announcement of the official start date for the new season by the Sierra Leone Football Association. As anticipation builds, Mogbwemo Queens FC is setting their sights on another successful season in their quest to maintain their status as the queens of Sierra Leone’s women’s football. Stay tuned for more updates as the season draws closer.
