The National Sports Authority (NSA) has announced plans to organise the first nationwide football competition for Kekeh and bike riders as part of efforts to promote peace, youth empowerment, and sports development across Sierra Leone.
The initiative, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Office of the Sports Ambassador, Charlie Bio Jr., was unveiled during a planning meeting held at the NSA Headquarters on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Speaking at the meeting, NSA Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., said the tournament is designed to foster unity among riders while supporting the Government’s youth empowerment and job creation agenda.
He noted that the competition will also serve as a platform for identifying talented athletes who could be developed to represent Sierra Leone in various sporting disciplines.
“The aim of this competition is to promote peace among riders and to support President Bio’s agenda on youth empowerment and job creation. We also hope to use this platform to identify sporting talents who can represent Sierra Leone in the different regular sporting disciplines in the country,” Conteh said.
Chairman of the NSA Board, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, described the tournament as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between riders and the public. He said the initiative would help improve the image of Kekeh and bike riders, who are often associated with negative public perceptions.
Representing the riders, National President of the Kekeh Riders Union, Ibrahim Serry, welcomed the initiative and commended the NSA for recognising the contribution of riders to the country’s transportation sector.
He reaffirmed the union’s readiness to participate in the competition, describing it as a positive step toward promoting unity and showcasing the talents of riders nationwide.
The planning meeting was organised and moderated by Sports Ambassador Charlie Bio Jr., as preparations continue for the inaugural nationwide tournament.
