Senegalese Pape Matar Sarr and Sierra Leonean Sufian Kalokoh played in the U20 wafu competition held in Guinea in 2019

Kalokoh won the golden boot award with six (6) goals after four matches played, Pape Matar Sarr also had a brilliant performance in that tournament as he helped Senegal to win the 2019 wafu U20 Tournament.

Today Pape Matar Sarr is currently playing for English Premier League side Tottenham, whilst golden boot winner Sufian Kalokoh is currently playing for Sierra Leone Premier League side Bo Rangers.

Sufian Kalokoh had an opportunity to trade his football career in Sweden after the tournament but he was unable to secure a lucrative contract.

Below is the comment from the Liberian football analyst. The comment was a contribution towards the comparison between Soffian Kalokoh and Sarr of Senegal and Totenham aims at pointing out the major challenges why Sierra Leonean Players are struggling to secure lucrative contracts in competitive European Leagues. He believes football is a business and it needs structure and Proper vision.

“The differences are very easy to understand! Very easy!

“Sarr came from Generation Foot, an academy that produced the likes of Papiss Cissé, Sadio Mane, Ismaïla Sarr, Diafra Sakho.

“Generation has quality technical team that prepares players for western football. Generation Foot has strong partnership with Metz, a French club that has many business partners in Europe.

“Unfortunately for Sufian, he comes from Sierra Leone without proper football developmental programs. He played for clubs that aren’t fundamentally good and don’t have the international partners like Generation Foot to take players where they are supposed to be after preparing them in Africa.

“It’s sad! A lot needs to be done for players from countries like Sierra Leone and Liberia to be up there with the bigger guys.

“We still haven’t understood that football is a serious business. Our clubs still haven’t realized the importance of having a proper youth football development programs with the right technicians employed. Or maybe they’ve realized the importance but lack the financial support to have them”

Pape Matar Sarr  joined Tottenham  from Metz  for €17m (£14.6m) in 2021. Sarr only joined Metz as a development player from Generation Foot less than two year ago, but his talent quickly shone through and he became a regular in the club’s first-team, scoring four goals in 25 appearances for Metz.

Spurs are reported as having beaten off competition from five other clubs to secure Sarr, who also made his senior international debut for Senegal earlier in 2021.

Generation Football entered an Exclusive Partnership with FC Metz in 2003 more than 35 Players trained at the Generation Foot Academy since 2000 have turned Professional footballers which includes Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr Papiss Cisse, Habib Diallo Pape Matar Sarr.
