Mogbwemo Queens promising forward, Rachael Alieu at age 11 has achieved a dual landmark as she becomes the youngest ever to play and win silverware in the history of the country’s top-flight leagues for the male and female categories respectively.
This happened after they were crowned as champions of the maiden Women’s Premier League in Sierra Leone on Friday, 31st March 2023.
According to Newsfeed Sierra Leone, eleven-year-old, Rachael Alieu hailed from Sahn Malen Pujehun District where she started her career with Young Strikers Football Club and joined the 2022/23 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League winners following her exceptional performance during a trial organized by Mogbwemo Queens FC.
Rachael Alieu is currently a JSS 1 pupil of the Every Nation Academy in Mogbwemo Town, her previous appearance in the league was in a 2-0 triumph over Malema Queens in a South East derby, and was among the first five players decorated during the crowning ceremony.
Alieu’s last appearance was against Correctional Service Football Club also their final match in the league which they won 1-0, she came as a substitute in the second half replacing the goalscorer and woman of the match Rashidatu Kamara, her introduction mesmerized the august gathering and her first touch further amazed the key dignitaries that graced the match including the Chairperson Asmaa James who was in attendance with a cross-section of her board members and the SLFA Deputy General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh who remarked that
“History will remember you and how I wish you would have been introduced earlier in the match” Bawoh hailed Rachael Alieu.
