The Sierra Leone national football team, the Leone Stars, played to a 1-1 draw against Chad in a crucial 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier today, November 13th, at the Stade de Epimbe in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The game witnessed midfielder Abu Dumbuya scoring a remarkable goal for Sierra Leone in the 29th minute, showcasing skill and finesse.

However, Chad bounced back quickly, with Mahamat Thiam successfully converting a penalty just five minutes later, capitalizing on an infringement by Sierra Leone’s goalkeeper, Francis Koroma.

The outcome of this match places Sierra Leone in a crucial position, requiring a favour from Group leaders Ivory Coast, who have already secured qualification.

Sierra Leone will now need Ivory Coast to defeat Zambia on Friday, and subsequently, they must clinch victory in their final group game against Zambia in Monrovia, Liberia, scheduled for the 19th of November, in order to secure qualification to the next Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Morocco.
