With just a few days to the official opening ceremony for the 2020 Paralympics, Sierra Leone 8-man delegation has safely arrived in Japan and they’ve settled in the game’s village.

Team Sierra Leone was received in Tokyo, by the chef de mission, Unisa Deen Kargbo on Friday 20th August 2021, and they are camping at pot I block 10 with other countries in the same building.

Speaking to the team on Friday evening, the chef de mission, admonished the two athletes to represent Sierra Leone in the best of their interest with decent performances.

He informed the two athletes about their classification and events, citing that Sorie Kargbo is classified in T46 and he will be competing in Long Jump, while Juan Faith Jackson who is classified in TF 46 will compete in the Javelin throw.

The environment is a bit strange for both athletes who will be competing for the first time in the Paralympics, and it is also the first time Sierra Leone is having two athletes in the history of the games.

Both Juan and Sorie had a light training session on Friday night and they will start effective training on Saturday 21st August 2021 at one of the venues in preparedness for their events.

The 16th summer Paralympic Games is scheduled to start on Tuesday 24th August 2021, with a mind-blowing opening ceremony which will be done by Emperor Naruhito, at the Olympics Stadium in Tokyo.

About 4,521 athletes will be competing in 540 events in 22 sports across different venues and the games will last for 2 weeks, without spectators due to the rise in Covid cases in Japan.
