The Sierra Leone Premier League Board (SLPLB) has announced that journalists can now collect their accreditation for the 2025/26 Premier League season at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Secretariat in Kingtom, Freetown.
In a notice issued on Saturday morning, the Board also urged qualified media practitioners who require further clarification to contact its office via phone, SMS or WhatsApp on +23278861242.
“The Board acknowledges and deeply appreciates the consistent dedication, professionalism and commitment of media practitioners who continue to play a vital role in promoting and elevating Sierra Leone’s top-flight football league,” the statement said.
Accreditation is a key requirement for sports journalists covering Premier League matches. The press tag grants holders access to pitch-side areas at league venues nationwide, as well as opportunities to interact with coaches, players and club officials throughout the season.
However, the timing of the accreditation issuance has attracted criticism from sections of the media. Journalists say the delay has significantly constrained their work, particularly during the early stages of the season, when access to venues, teams and official match-day activities is strictly controlled. Some reporters were forced to rely on second-hand information or cover matches from the stands, limiting the depth and quality of their reporting.
Media practitioners argue that timely accreditation is essential for effective coverage and professionalism, noting that delays undermine their ability to perform their duties and contribute meaningfully to the growth and visibility of the league. They are calling on the Premier League Board to ensure that future accreditations are processed and distributed well ahead of the season to avoid similar challenges.
