Sierra Leone’s journey in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers has come to an end after a hard-fought battle against Guinea.
A 2-1 defeat in the second leg, played at the Stade Mamadou Konate in Bamako, Mali, resulted in a 4-3 aggregate score, eliminating the Sierra Leonean team.
The young Sierra Leonean squad entered the second leg with high hopes, following a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first leg played on their home soil. However, Guinea proved to be a formidable opponent, securing a crucial victory in front of their supporters.
The second leg was a tense and closely contested affair, with both teams displaying determination and skill. Guinea managed to gain the upper hand, scoring two goals that proved decisive. Despite a valiant effort from Sierra Leone, they could only manage to score one goal in response.
This result means that Guinea will now advance to the next round of the qualifiers, where they are set to face Ivory Coast.
Despite the disappointment, the Sierra Leonean team displayed great resilience and determination throughout the qualifying campaign. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) released a statement expressing their pride in the team’s efforts and urging the public to continue supporting women’s football in the country.
“We appreciate all of you for your unwavering support and prayers throughout this campaign. We urge the public to continue supporting the team as they build for future competitions. This is just the beginning, and the future looks bright for the Sierra Leone Women’s National U-17 team,” the SLFA statement said.
