Christian Campbell, a candidate defeated in the recent Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) elections, has been banned from participating in any boxing-related activities in the country.

This decision follows allegations of misconduct after Campbell lost the race for the Secretary General position to Alhaji Komba.

In a formal letter issued by the SLBA Executive, it was revealed that Campbell allegedly misrepresented himself to the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC), a move seen as damaging to the association’s reputation.

The letter states, “The Exco of the SLBA hereby imposes a ban on you from partaking, in whatever form or manner, in all boxing activities organized by any boxing or other entity in Sierra Leone and from engaging in any matter related to same with third parties outside Sierra Leone with immediate effect.”

According to the SLBA, Campbell is accused of multiple incidents of insubordination and for tarnishing the image of the sport in Sierra Leone.

One of the most serious allegations is his impersonation of an SLBA executive member, falsely claiming the title of Director of Administration and External Relations in communication with the AFBC.

In a related incident, Campbell is also accused of signing a letter to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) requesting the release of boxers to train for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, under the guise of being the Secretary General of the SLBA.

The association condemned this act, describing it as fraudulent. The letter from the SLBA asserts that “this is a complete fraud, thus further exposing your insincerity that undermines the sport. Your activities since you left office have been demonstrably geared towards thwarting the gains and fortunes of the SLBA, its affiliates, and partners.”

The SLBA warned Campbell that any failure to comply with the ban could result in legal consequences, stating that his actions have consistently undermined the progress of the association. The Ministry of Sports and other sporting bodies have been informed of the ban, reinforcing its seriousness.

The matter escalated after Campbell allegedly posted misleading information on an AFBC WhatsApp forum, further claiming to be an SLBA executive member. In response, AFBC members expressed their discontent, with some calling for Campbell’s removal from the group.

In their letter to the SLBA, AFBC members stated, “We are reliably informed that Christian Campbell, with no official role in the SLBA, was added to the forum by Balde, President of the FBG; an act which we consider unethical and offensive.”

The SLBA emphasized that Campbell’s actions were detrimental to the sport, and his removal from all boxing activities was necessary to protect the integrity of the association and its partnerships. The association remains firm in its stance, ensuring that any attempts by Campbell to violate the ban will be met with legal repercussions.
