The President of the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF), Ali Hijazi, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of rehabilitation work on the basketball court at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

The visit, conducted on December 4, 2024, was part of efforts to evaluate the ongoing project, being implemented in partnership with a Chinese construction company and the Government of Sierra Leone.

Accompanied by SLBF Secretary General Ishmail Bangura, Technical Director Jamal Hudruge, and a representative from the National Sports Authority (NSA), Hijazi conducted a site inspection to assess the facility’s alignment with international standards. He praised the quality of work, highlighting the accurate measurements of the court’s inner and outer lines and the rims’ height, all of which meet FIBA requirements.

“The progress here is impressive,” Hijazi stated. “This is a critical step for basketball in Sierra Leone, and we are optimistic about the completion timeline as outlined by the Ministry of Sports and the NSA. With this court, we will have a much-needed boost for our national basketball league and the sport overall.”

The rehabilitation of the Siaka Stevens Stadium, including its basketball court, is part of a broader project to enhance sports infrastructure across the country. The SLBF aims to kickstart its national league later this year, and Hijazi underscored the importance of completing the project swiftly to support these plans.

The SLBF extended gratitude to the NSA for its continued backing of basketball development. As the work progresses, stakeholders remain hopeful that the upgraded facility will serve as a catalyst for the sport’s growth in Sierra Leone.
