Just days after being released on bail following allegations of corruption and financial fraud, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Thomas Daddy Brima is embroiled in fresh controversy.

According to Journalist Hawa Dauda, Brima is now accused of neglecting to support the national U-20 team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt, despite reportedly receiving government funds and personal allowances.

Reliable sources within the National Sports Authority (NSA) have indicated that the government, through the Ministry of Finance, allocated funds to facilitate the Sierra Leone U-20 delegation’s participation in the AFCON.

However, according to these sources, Mr. Brima allegedly made his travel to Egypt contingent upon receiving his personal allowance and finalized travel arrangements.

The sources further claim that all of Mr. Brima’s demands were met. Despite this, he reportedly failed to travel with the team or join them in Egypt. His absence is particularly conspicuous as presidents of football federations and government representatives from various African nations are present at the tournament to offer support and encouragement to their respective teams.

This latest accusation is not an isolated incident. Reports obtained by suggest a pattern of behavior, alleging that Mr. Brima has on several previous occasions collected travel allowances from both the SLFA and the government for national team engagements but subsequently failed to appear.

These allegations will likely fuel further scrutiny of Mr. Brima’s leadership of the SLFA, especially in light of the recent corruption charges he is currently facing.
