The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has concluded a three-day CAF Licence C refresher course, bringing together coaches from across the country as part of its ongoing drive to professionalise coaching and raise technical standards at all levels of the game.

The intensive programme, organised by the SLFA Technical Department, combined classroom-based theory with practical field sessions. The curriculum focused on modern player management, contemporary coaching methodologies, and other technical areas designed to reflect evolving global football trends.

The refresher was led by SLFA Technical Director John Edward Keister, a CAF-licensed coaching instructor, with support from senior national coaches and CAF Licence A holders Mohamed Lamin Kamara, Musa Kallon, and Amidu Karim. Their collective expertise ensured a balanced blend of tactical, technical, and performance-focused training.

Participants engaged in on-pitch drills and simulated match scenarios aimed at translating classroom concepts into real-world coaching practice. Sessions on refereeing and the laws of the game were delivered by SLFA Referees Manager Alhaji Sanusi Rashid, while safeguarding and player welfare were also addressed to reinforce safe and inclusive environments for players.

The refresher forms part of the SLFA’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots development and align local coaching standards with international best practice. By investing in coach education, the association aims to enhance player development pathways and improve the competitiveness of Sierra Leonean football at both domestic and regional levels.

Coaches from regional clubs and youth academies attended the programme, receiving updated coaching materials and practical feedback from instructors. The SLFA said the training will be followed by ongoing mentorship and monitoring to ensure effective implementation at club and community levels.

The association further disclosed that additional coach education programmes are planned for the year, including CAF Licence B courses and advanced technical workshops, aimed at building a sustainable pipeline of qualified coaches nationwide.
