The Sierra Leone Football Association has in Press Release cautioned aspiring candidates and supporters for the forthcoming elections in 2025.
According to the said release dated 15th February 2024, The Executive Committee issues a firm directive to all potential candidates and their supporters: exercise prudence and await the official declaration of the election date and campaign period by the Electoral Committee of SLFA before commencing any campaign endeavors.
SLFA affirms the critical importance of maintaining peace and unity within our nation’s football fraternity to foster its growth and integrity.
SLFA believes that Premature campaigning poses a direct threat to these foundational principles and has the potential to:
- Exacerbate existing tensions among rival clubs in the Football Association Leagues.
-
Intensify scrutiny of referee decisions through a political lens within the Football Association Leagues.
-
Undermine the authority and efficacy of the FA.
-
Incite violence among supporters at football venues.
While we acknowledge the enthusiasm of individuals to engage in the electoral process and support their preferred candidates, we stress the imperative of preserving the newfound stability within our esteemed football ecosystem. By refraining from campaigning prematurely, candidates demonstrate their commitment to prioritizing peace and security within the football community, respecting the electoral procedures, and ensuring nonviolence, particularly during football matches.
SLFA emphasized that any actions taken by potential candidates during this interim period that tarnish the reputation of the sport will be done at their peril adding that the relevant bodies within SLFA stand prepared to take prompt and equitable measures as deemed necessary to uphold the integrity of the game.
