The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on Monday, 8 June, officially launched the CAF C Diploma Coaching Course at the Sierra Leone Football Academy in Freetown, bringing together aspiring coaches from across the country for structured theoretical and practical training aimed at strengthening youth and grassroots football.
The programme, currently at the module stage, is being delivered under the Confederation of African Football (CAF) framework through the SLFA Technical Department. It marks the second CAF C Diploma course organised within four months, reflecting an increased effort by the SLFA to expand coaching capacity nationwide.
The course curriculum covers modern coaching methodologies, tactical understanding, and practical skills essential for youth development. Assessment at the end of the module will determine participants’ progression through the CAF coaching pathway.
The SLFA said coaching education remains a key pillar of its football development strategy. President Babadi Kamara has prioritised the expansion of certified coaching courses as part of broader efforts to professionalise the domestic game and improve standards at grassroots level.
By scaling up coach education programmes, the SLFA aims to strengthen technical standards in youth football and create more consistent development pathways for young players.
The association said the regular scheduling of CAF-certified courses demonstrates its long-term commitment to capacity building for clubs, academies, and community football structures.
The SLFA added that it will continue working with CAF and other partners to deliver additional coaching courses and development programmes, noting that sustained investment in coach education is essential for long-term improvement in Sierra Leonean football.
