The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, has addressed public concerns over the national team selection for the upcoming match against Chad.
Speaking on Good Morning Salone on 98.1 FM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Brima clarified the selection process and responded to criticisms from fans and commentators.
Brima emphasized that while he respects the public’s right to express opinions about team selection, these opinions should not be taken as definitive truth. “Everyone has someone in mind for the team, and while it’s healthy to discuss different players, not every suggestion can be considered gospel,” he stated.
He went on to describe the challenges faced during the national team selection, noting that many individuals often suggest players who are not on the SLFA’s radar. Brima also mentioned the case of Kai, a top striker who has retired from international football three times, yet there is ongoing discussion about bringing him back to the squad.
During the same interview, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai of the Sport Authority weighed in, underscoring that while the authority does not have the power to select the national team, they, like every Sierra Leonean, have the right to comment on the selection process. “It’s the convergence of opinion that brings better results,” Saffa stated, emphasizing the role
