The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) is currently hosting a five-day workshop focused on the Coach Educators’ Development Pathway, aimed at improving coach education and mentorship throughout the country.

The workshop, which began on Monday, May 26, 2025, is taking place at the SLFA Headquarters in Freetown.

Facilitated by FIFA Technical Expert Frans Mokata Mogashoa from South Africa, the program was organized to empower SLFA Coach Educators to enhance the local coaching ecosystem. The initiative is part of FIFA’s global effort to assist Member Associations in developing qualified and competent coach educators.

Among the participants are Coach Educators Mohamed Lamin Kamara, Head Coach of the Sierra Leone U-20 national team and East End Lions, Ishmail Kallon, and Mohamed Bilo Bah.

Those educators are undergoing mentorship and assessment, focusing on critical areas such as problem-solving, talent development, knowledge sharing, and leadership in coach education. All three previously participated in a similar program in Ghana in 2023.

In his address to the participants, Mogashoa expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the SLFA Coach Educators, stating, “These coach educators have shown great promise. Their development is crucial to improving the quality of player training across the country, particularly under the Talent Development Scheme. I urge them to continue working on the areas of improvement identified during the course, as they work towards earning their FIFA diplomas.”

Coach Kamara, speaking on behalf of the participants, thanked the SLFA for its investment in capacity building and emphasized their commitment to sharing the knowledge acquired during the workshop with coaches nationwide.

The training workshop is scheduled to conclude on Friday, May 30, 2025, poising a crucial step forward in the development of football coaching in Sierra Leone.
