The newly appointed Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, officially took office on Thursday 18th July, 2024, after power was handed over to him by his predecessor David S. Woobay at the NSA’s Signal Hill Road office.
The transition is part of holistic top level management change to drive sport development forward.
Speaking at the official handing over ceremony, outgoing Chair Woobay expressed gratitude to President Bio for appointing him as the first Board Chairman of the six-year-old NSA. He recounted his positive experience working with all Board Members, expressing hope that his successor will enjoy same.
He revealed that Board meetings are held every two months to address key issues crucial to sports development.
“Since the appointment of the Board, four directorate staff and six support ones have been recruited, despite encountering challenges in staff recruitment,” he stated, commending the Minister of Sports for turning the wheels of sports development in Sierra Leone.
In his respond, new Board Chairman Ibrahim Nyelenkeh extended his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to President Bio for appointing him as the second Chairman of the NSA. He praised his predecessor for advancing the NSA and emphasized the importance of teamwork.
He went on to assure Woobay that he would strive to make the NSA a respectable institution.
From her side , Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima thanked the outgoing Board Chairman for his significant contribution to sports development, describing him as the father of sports whose legacy will live on. She stressed the importance of teamwork in sports administration and thanked him for fostering collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and the NSA. She assured him that both entities would continue to rely on his expertise to foster growth.
