`After the National Olympic Committee announced the date for Elective Congress, the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Executive paid a courtesy visit to the N.O.C President at his office in Howe Street, Freetown.
Stating the purpose of the visit, the SLSDWA Secretary General, Mr. Abdul Turay said, “We are here to officially thank you for your contribution towards the sporting family over the years as you have been a symbol of peace worthy to emulate. We are also here to formally bid farewell to you and to give you a gift to show our appreciation.”
Presenting the gifts to the N.O.C President Sierra Leone Swimming Women’s Representative Ms. Hawa Dauda stated, “We are here to show our appreciation to you on behalf of our Association.”
In his response to the SLSDWA members N.O.C President Dr. Patrick Coker stated that he had been following their Association since the time Dr. A. T. Fadlu-Deen of blessed memory was the leader and commended the Swimming Association for their continuous support to the NOC and strides towards development of the SLSDWA. He informed the visitors that as the immediate past president, he has a position in the NOC Board and so will still be part of the family.
“Before making my intention officially known to the public, let me formally inform you as the head of the sporting family that because of my good leadership skills worthy to emulate, I have been given the full support of my Association to contest in the forthcoming N.O.C Election slated for 10th December this year.,” SLSDWA President Mohamed Abdul Turay affirmed. “We also don’t believe that we should destroy the entity that we love”, he ended.
Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Joseph Nyande thanked the Sierra Leone Swimming Executive Committee for their visit and advised that peace should reign.
“Your Association has always been there for the N.O.C I wish you good luck in your endeavors”, he ended.
