Ahead of the West Africa Zone A tournament, WAFU Zone-A Executive Director Mapathe Gaye from Senegal and Finance Officer Balamin Ceesay from The Gambia arrived in Sierra Leone yesterday, Monday, June 24, for a facilities inspection.

The WAFU delegation was welcomed by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) team at the Home Suites Hotel in Freetown. The SLFA Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Head of Finance Ibrahim Bah, Director of Competitions Sorie Ibrahim Sesay and a cross-section of the Local Organizing Committee officially received the delegates and commenced deliberations to ensure the successful execution of the tournament.

“We are committed to hosting a remarkable tournament that will not only showcase the talent of our women footballers but also highlight the capacity of Sierra Leone to host significant regional sporting events,” said Mohamed Benson Bawoh, SLFA Acting General Secretary.

The CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers to be hosted in Sierra Leone from August 2 to 11 to at the Southern Arena .

Women’s division champions from WAFU A member associations with active women’s division leagues are expected to travel to Sierra Leone for the annual qualification tournament.

The winners of the tournament qualified for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament. This will be the first time that Sierra Leone will host such a tournament, bringing together over 100 players from various teams in the West African Sub-region.

The CAF Women’s Champions League is an annual international women’s association football club competition in Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football, involving the continent’s top women’s club teams. It is the female counterpart of the CAF Champions League.
