Head Coach of Wusum Stars Football Club the only team representing the Northeast Region in the Sierra Leone Premier League has stated that his side is currently in intensive preparation for the 2022/23 season which has been scheduled to kick-start this November.
Coach Turay further told this media that he has bolstered his squad with players scouted playing for division one teams in the district and the region noting “except striker Sulaiman S. Kargbo who has now joined East End Lions, but all other players that helped us to finish in the third position during the previous season are with us and we have also replaced our previous striker with another new breed who is now going through the same tactics that helped Sulaiman to made a breakthrough in the 2021/22 season” he disclosed.
He added that the away defeats mostly were on dry ground disturbed the team, not neither winning the league nor emerging as runner-up and currently alternating their pre-season friendly matches “I am now working on the lessons learned from the previous season, especially for the away matches on dry grounds which affected us as a club a lot, therefore I am currently alternating our friendly matches some at the turf and some on dry grounds one of them is the one in Kabala we secured a 2-1 win” he ascribed.
Coach Abdul Rahman Turay also Guided the club to end their nine years of absence in the Premier League by winning the Northeast region SLFA 2021 Playoffs unbeaten. He ended by calling on stakeholders in the district and the region to give their financial support to the club which will motivate the players
“I want to commend the stakeholders and supporters of Wusum Stars for the unconditional love they showed to us in the last league rallying behind us during both our home and away matches, as we are about to kick-start a new league season I also want to use this medium to remind them that the club is greatly looking forward to their financial support to motivate the players” he concluded.
