The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing, has acknowledged the progress made within the country’s justice sector under the leadership of Chief Justice Komba Kamanda, just 200 days after his appointment.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Chief Justice to the Chinese Embassy on Spur Loop in Freetown, Ambassador Wang noted the significant developments within the Judiciary over a relatively short period. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of reforms aimed at enhancing the administration of justice across Sierra Leone.

One of the changes he mentioned was the way the Bailiffs Department now works. Under the new setup, no execution can happen through the Undersheriff’s Office unless a Supervisory Judge approves it first. The Ambassador said this step brings more order and control.
Justice Kamanda has also helped make the courts more available to people in far-off areas. More Magistrates and Judges have been hired, and High Court sessions are happening again in Pujehun District after being on hold for two years.

Another update involves Adoption Orders. In the past, Court Registrars signed off on them, but now, only the Master and Registrar can sign once everything is approved and completed. This change makes the process more secure.
The Chief Justice thanked the Ambassador for visiting and showing interest in the Judiciary’s work. He said Sierra Leone and China have had a strong friendship for 55 years, with China helping in areas like sports and healthcare, including building the National Stadium.

He said the Judiciary’s main goal is to serve the people fairly and without bias. Even though there are many problems to deal with, they are working hard to improve things. He also asked the Chinese government to continue supporting the Judiciary so they can keep making progress.
The visit ended with short remarks from senior judges, as both sides looked forward to stronger cooperation in the years ahead.
