In a tragic turn of events, a thunderstorm has left a family of five homeless after their home was engulfed in flames. Gbessay Johnny, the owner of the devastated three-room house, shared her harrowing experience of the evening that changed their lives.
On the evening of the incident, Gbessay attended church service at the New Harvest Ministry, leaving her family behind. As she worshipped, a fierce windstorm swept through the area, followed by thunder and lightning. When she returned home, she was met with the heartbreaking sight of her house ablaze.
The fire claimed not only their home but also irreplaceable belongings. Gbessay described the loss: “We lost everything—one bag of rice, fourteen thousand three hundred and thirty-three Leones, clothes, and personal items. My children’s school materials, including their results, bags, shoes, and certificates, were all destroyed.” The family also mourns the loss of their beloved security dog, who perished in the fire.
Among the five affected are Gbessay’s two children and an elderly blind woman, who relied on the safety of their home. Now, the family is staying with a compassionate neighbor who has opened their doors during this difficult time. However, the uncertainty looms large, especially since Gbessay’s nineteen-year-old son has been missing since the incident.
In her plea for help, Gbessay reached out to the government, disaster management committees, and humanitarian organizations. “We have nothing left—no clothes, no food. We need urgent assistance,” she implored, her voice heavy with despair.
This incident highlights not only the vulnerability of families in the face of natural disasters but also the resilience of community support. As the family grapples with their loss, they cling to hope that help will come swiftly, allowing them to rebuild their lives and find a sense of stability once more.
