The Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Engineer Alfred J. Momodu, has led the creation and maintenance of different roads across the country.

The focus is on building new roads, fixing damaged ones, and improving transport routes in both urban and rural areas.

According to reports by Oracle Newspaper, construction has started on the Tinkoko Kpetema to Mattru Jong road. The contract was awarded to Pavifort Construction Company, and the project is expected to last for two years. Once finished, the road is expected to improve movement between farming communities and nearby towns in the southern region.

With limited government funds, SLRA is working with both public and private partners to support ongoing projects. One of these is the rebuilding of the Mabang to Moyamba to Gbambatoke Junction road, which covers about 86 kilometres. The work is being carried out through shared funding.

SLRA is also carrying out repairs on roads already in use. Current work includes fixing roads that connect border towns with district centres, as well as emergency work along the Makeni to Magburaka road. Repairs have also been made near the Makambo Bridge, where the road surface had become unsafe.

Attention is also being given to areas with high traffic and frequent accidents. In cities, steps are being taken to ease congestion, while in rural areas, work is focused on routes that link farming communities to markets and service centres.

In Freetown, broken concrete slabs are being replaced along several busy roads. A temporary bypass is also being built at the Mathehun Bridge so that vehicles can continue using the road while the main bridge is under repair.

These projects are part of broader efforts to improve road conditions and transport access across the country, with more work expected in other districts over time.
