Ambassador David Bryan Hunt recently visited Miro Forestry, a company dedicated to environmentally-friendly timber production, highlighting the positive impact of U.S. investment in the region.
The U.S. Government, through the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), has committed $24 million to help Miro Forestry expand its operations.
The investment is expected to significantly enhance the company’s capacity, allowing it to employ over a thousand Sierra Leoneans.
During his visit, Ambassador Hunt noted the importance of sustainable practices in forestry and their role in economic development.

Reportedly, Miro’s efforts are not only contributing to job creation but also setting a new standard for partnerships that prioritize environmental responsibility.
Established in 2010, Miro Forestry and Timber Products provides Plywood, Edge Glued Panels, CCA Treated Poles and related forest products to partners and clients in West Africa and around the world.

Its operations are designed to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, aiming to restore degraded lands while providing a reliable source of timber for industries.

This is double standard and our right hypocrisy from the Americans.
There is nothing like “environmentally friendly timber production”.
These companies have no interest on the effects of global warming in our country.
Rise in temperature and flooding, the ordinary citizens are suffering the effect of it.
There are many more industries to invest in, not the deforestation of our secred trees.
Shame on you Ambassador Hunt.
