The Parliament of Sierra Leone has commenced a four-day Mid-Term Planning and Operations Retreat at Companero Hotel, Bureau Beach, with the support of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA).
The strategic retreat aims to foster collective reflection, operational strengthening, and strategic repositioning across all departments of the Parliamentary Service.
In her opening remarks, Director General of Parliament, Madam Finda F. Fraser, welcomed all participants and underscored the significance of mid-term reflection within the current strategic cycle (2021–2025). “This retreat is about honest reflection, renewed commitment, and refining our frameworks to better serve the people of Sierra Leone,” she stated.
The retreat seeks to assess parliamentary operations, resource utilization, and interdepartmental collaboration to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery to both Members of Parliament and the citizenry.
Dr. Mamoud Tarawallie, Country Director of IDEA, attended the opening ceremony and reaffirmed IDEA’s commitment to supporting the Parliament, particularly in legislative process strengthening, gender inclusion, strategic planning, and capacity building. He commended the Parliament for creating a space for reflection and planning, noting that such engagements are critical for institutional growth and public trust.
Honorable Neneh Lebbie, a Member of the Parliamentary Commission, represented the Commission to gain insights into the successes and challenges faced by the Parliamentary Service. She emphasized the importance of ongoing support for institutional reforms and service enhancement.
On the first day of the retreat, various departments presented their key achievements, operational challenges, and strategic contributions to Parliament’s legislative mandate and institutional development.
The four-day retreat notably marks a crucial step in enhancing institutional effectiveness, fostering transparency, and aligning the internal functions of Parliament with national development priorities.
