The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced a major initiative to distribute 10,000 footballs to schools across the country.
President Thomas Daddy Brima confirmed the initiative, emphasizing that it aims to promote the growth of football at the grassroots level.
Brima stated that the footballs are intended exclusively for schools, clarifying that they will not be allocated to clubs or community teams.
Brima further mentioned that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) typically provides $10,000 million to Sierra Leone for football development, annually. The funding supports various initiatives aimed at enhancing the sport within the nation.
As part of the distribution process, Brima indicated that district chairmen will be engaged to sign agreements confirming the number of footballs allocated to each school.
He warned that any attempts to undermine the process would be addressed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, ensuring accountability and transparency in the distribution.
“By the time schools reopen, I want football to be played in every part of Sierra Leone,” Brima stated. He assured that thorough visibility studies have been conducted to determine the appropriate number of footballs for each school.
