The government of Sierra Leone has secured $54 million in funding from the World Bank, alongside 33,835 metric tons of fertilizer from three partner organizations to boost the agricultural sector.

The initiative notably aims to support the Feed Salone program during the current financial year.

The announcement follows the recent meeting of the Alliance for Food Systems Transformation, where stakeholders discussed strategies to enhance food security and agricultural productivity in Sierra Leone.

The funding is poised to primarily benefit registered farmers and agribusinesses under the Partnership for Food and Nutrition (PFN) organization.

Of the total fertilizer allocated, 9 metric tons will reportedly be distributed free of charge to registered farmers and agribusinesses located in Magburaka, Mile 91, and Torma Bum.

This distribution is expected to significantly help local farmers in their efforts to boost rice planting and improve other agricultural outputs.

It was further confirmed that registered members from other districts who applied for support will receive financial assistance to ensure they can also participate in agricultural activities.
