The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. James Baggie Bio, has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., to discuss avenues for strategic collaboration aimed at improving road safety and national security.

During the meeting, held on Monday at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Bio presented an overview of key operational challenges and outlined the Authority’s current efforts to enhance safety on the roads. A major point of discussion was the prevention of stolen vehicles from being registered in the SLRSA system. Mr. Bio emphasized the importance of vehicle verification and tracking as part of a broader strategy to safeguard national security.
He also raised concerns regarding the limited capacity of Road Safety Corps personnel to enforce regulations in certain situations without adequate police support. In this regard, the Executive Director called for greater institutional coordination and mutual support between the SLRSA and law enforcement agencies.

In response, Minister Lengor welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing internal security concerns. He commended the SLRSA’s steps to combat vehicle-related crimes and expressed the Ministry’s readiness to convene meetings with stakeholders in the transport and security sectors to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.
Minister Lengor also highlighted additional road safety concerns, including the increasing risks associated with container trucks and the general condition of vehicles operating on public roads. He advocated for the use of modern technology in the Authority’s safety and enforcement operations to improve oversight and compliance.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a shared commitment to sustained engagement and collaboration. They agreed on the need for continued dialogue and joint action to promote road safety, enforce compliance, and enhance public security across the country.
