A dispute has emerged within Sierra Leone’s women’s football scene, following allegations from Mogbwemo Queens Football Club that one of their contracted players, Mabel Gbongay, is training illegally with rival club Ram Kamara FC.
In a public notice released by Mogbwemo Queens, the club claims that Gbongay remains under contract and has not been granted clearance to transfer or train with any other team. The club alleges that Ram Kamara FC previously requested the player’s release but was denied through official channels. Despite this, they allege, the player has since been approached and engaged by Ram Kamara FC without the necessary authorization.
Mogbwemo Queens has described the situation as a direct breach of national and international football regulations, citing the rules of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the world governing body, FIFA. The club has filed a formal complaint with the SLFA over what it terms “illegal player tapping.”
According to the statement, Mogbwemo Queens insists that Gbongay is not permitted to train, play, or represent Ram Kamara FC in any capacity, including participation in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Preliminary Qualifiers in Senegal.
