A young man is currently in police custody in Kenema after being found with a significant quantity of what is suspected to be the synthetic drug Kush.

The arrest, made on Hassan Street, followed a community tip-off that prompted swift action by law enforcement officials.

According to the Sierra Leone Police, the suspect identified as Ishmael Kallon was found in possession of 25 bundles and 21 sachets of dried leaves believed to be Kush.

The seizure was carried out by officers attached to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) operating in the Eastern Region.

Sergeant Ahmid Kamara, head of the TOCU unit in the region, acknowledged the critical role played by community cooperation.

Regional Police Commander, AIG Francis Moses Tower, also commended the public for their vigilance and reiterated the police’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and trafficking across the region.

The seized substances are currently being held as evidence, pending further laboratory analysis to confirm their composition. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the case, including the source and potential distribution network.

Authorities are appealing to the general public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities. They assured citizens that all information provided will be handled with strict confidentiality.

Kush, a synthetic drug, has increasingly become a concern in Sierra Leone due to its harmful effects and growing presence among the youth population. This latest arrest forms part of broader nationwide efforts aimed at reducing drug-related crimes and protecting public health.
