The minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG. Morie Lengor Esq., has called for greater cooperation among stakeholders to address growing security and crime-related concerns and highlighted personnel deficiencies.
Minister Lengor was speaking during a high- level security engagement in Kono District on Saturday August 9 2025.
The Minister first met with deployed military and police officers at the Koidu Holdings Concession Area, which is seven square miles in size. He praised their commitment to protecting the company’s assets and recognized the effort they endure due to their small number.
The Minister discussed with stakeholders including the participation of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kono District, Paramount Chiefs, the Chairman of the Koidu District Council, representatives from the Office of National Security, Civil Society Activists, and the Senior District Officer, acknowledging that security issues cannot be handled in a vacuum.
Minister Lengor encourages the community leadership to actively fight against crime and to help security officers during the fight. The idea of establishing a committee was brought up at the end of the meeting, with the responsibility of creating a workable short, medium, and long-term action plan to address the issues brought up.
Minister Lengor Esq, also made a stop at the Motema and Tankoro Police Division, where he discussed with the Local Unit Commanders, CSP Augustine Kabia and CSP Augustine Kamara together with their Personnel, and encourages them to keep the good spirit in protecting lives and properties.
He further made a brief visit to the Sefadu Correctional Services and the National Fire Force, in Koidu City, encouraging the personnel to be committed and deligent in their work, despite their struggles.
