The Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs has conducted its first official visit to the Freetown City Council (FCC) since the current council leadership assumed office.

The visit brought together senior FCC officials and key staff members to engage with the parliamentary committee on matters of local governance and community development. Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr personally hosted the delegation, providing insights into the council’s ongoing initiatives and strategic plans for the city.

The main purpose of the visit was to review how the council is delivering services to the people of Freetown and to provide guidance to ensure these services meet the needs of the community. The committee plays an important role in checking local government activities to help improve their effectiveness and ensure that residents receive quality services.

During the meeting, the committee members, led by chair Hon. Kemoko Conteh and including Hon. Emerson Lamina, met with Mayor Aki-Sawyerr and other council leaders. They discussed ongoing projects within the city, administrative efforts by the council, and explored ways to improve cooperation between the Freetown City Council and parliament.

Both the Freetown City Council and the parliamentary committee expressed interest in working together beyond formal meetings. They aim to build stronger partnerships that will support the development and progress of the city and benefit its residents in the long term.

This visit marks the beginning of what is expected to be ongoing collaboration and regular communication between the Freetown City Council and the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs, as both parties work towards improving governance and service delivery in Freetown.
