A 38-year-old former teacher, Musa Turay, appeared before Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens at the NASSIT Court in Freetown on Tuesday, facing serious charges of sexual penetration involving two young victims.

The case involves two girls aged 12 and 14, with the alleged offences occurring between February and March 2024.

Turay, a former teacher at St. Joseph Secondary School, is facing two separate charges. The first is sexual penetration, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, as amended in 2019. The second charge concerns sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust, under Section 21(1)(a) of the same Act.

In court, Turay pleaded not guilty to both charges. During cross-examination, State Prosecutor Musa Pious Sesay Jr. asked Turay about his relationship with the victims. Turay confirmed that one of the victims was his student but denied any malice or bad intentions, calling the allegations a “blatant lie.”

The prosecutor pressed Turay about whether he had communicated with the victim outside school hours. Turay admitted he had given his phone number to students for private lessons, but only when their parents requested it. He also confirmed that his phone number, 078486465, was his personal number.

The prosecutor pointed out that Turay’s phone, which had been seized by the CID Cyber Unit, had been in contact with the victim. Despite Turay’s claim of no communication, his number was found on the victim’s phone. Turay responded by saying that he frequently received calls and messages from various people, making it no surprise that his number appeared on the victim’s device.

When questioned about any potential involvement in a syndicate, Turay denied any connection. He also confirmed he was married with four children, although his family resides abroad. One of his children is attending an international school.

Due to the seriousness of the charges, Justice Stevens denied Turay bail. The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025, for further proceedings.

The court proceedings are expected to continue as the investigation into these disturbing allegations develops.
