Recent arrests connected to a drug operation in Guinea’s Forecariah Prefecture have attracted attention on both sides of the Sierra Leone–Guinea border. Authorities in both countries have clarified that the operation is strictly internal to Guinea and does not pose any immediate security threat to Sierra Leone.
According to Commandant Sidibe, a Guinean military officer involved in the security sweep, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of narcotics and other criminal activity in Forecariah. Conducted on August 15, 2025, the crackdown is among several measures Guinea has intensified as it approaches its national elections.
“The operation is internal and has nothing to do with the Sierra Leone-Guinea border,” Commandant Sidibe stated, dismissing speculation circulating on social media that linked the arrests to cross-border activity.
In Sierra Leone, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Bob Musa Mansaray, Local Unit Commander of the Kambia Police Division, echoed this clarification. He reaffirmed that security cooperation between Sierra Leone’s law enforcement agencies, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, and Guinean authorities remains strong.
“The news relating to drugs arrested in Guinea has nothing to do with Sierra Leone,” CSP Mansaray said. “Drug abuse, its supply, and trafficking across borders is under control.” He noted that his division had long implemented systems to deter drug smuggling and urged community members to share information that could help sustain regional stability.
Both officials stressed that the situation poses no immediate threat to border security. CSP Mansaray assured residents of continued peace within his area of command, emphasizing that the collaborative framework between Sierra Leonean and Guinean forces is “watertight.”
