On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the residents of Dagbanya Section in Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema Division, took a major step toward strengthening security and fighting crime through a community policing initiative.

The gathering in Kpalu Village brought together community leaders, residents, and police officers to discuss local safety concerns and promote collaboration.

Chief Jinnah Momoh expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Kenema Division for their quick response to security issues. He called on everyone in Dagbanya and nearby areas to support the youth volunteers who have stepped up to help keep the community safe. “We won’t rest until Dagbanya becomes a crime-free zone,” he affirmed.

Chief Vandi highlighted how drug abuse is fueling youth involvement in crimes like theft. He pointed out that drug dealers are at the root of many community problems and stressed the importance of active participation in community policing as a key to development and safety.

Sub-Inspector Brima James Musa praised the community’s proactive attitude, emphasizing that effective policing depends on strong cooperation with residents. “Crime only thrives when communities allow it,” he noted, urging residents to continue supporting police efforts to deter criminal behavior.

Inspector Mohammed Corneh, Operations Officer for Kenema Division, also commended the community for their commitment to safety. He announced plans for a follow-up meeting where senior police officials will engage with Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) and local stakeholders to reinforce the partnership and deepen community-police collaboration.

This initiative highlights a shared goal: building a safer, more secure Dagbanya through ongoing teamwork between the community and law enforcement.
