Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister delivered has opened of the Sierra Leone Canada Trade, Investment and Cultural Show 2025, emphasising digitisation, innovation, and radical inclusion as key pillars of national development.

The forum convened investors, policymakers, and diaspora stakeholders to explore trade and investment opportunities between Sierra Leone and Canada.

Chief Minister Sengeh, speaking at the ceremony, said that digitisation is not a luxury but a necessity for inclusive development. He shared progress in expanding 3G and 4G mobile connectivity across Sierra Leone, with pilot 5G networks already in operation, ensuring that even remote communities like Koindu are connected to opportunity.

He cited the country’s significant reduction in maternal mortality (79%), attributing it to the use of digital health systems, and spotlighted innovations such as the “468” SMS platform, which gives parents nationwide access to student exam results.

He further explained the implementation of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024, introducing non-custodial sentencing, and praised the repeal of criminal libel laws, which previously restricted free speech. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transitional justice, including renewed implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations.

The 2025 forum underscored Sierra Leone’s commitment to tech-driven, inclusive growth, and showcased opportunities for partnerships across education, healthcare, infrastructure, and digital innovation.
