Emmanuel Sahr Tondoneh Esq., the newly appointed Ombudsman for Sierra Leone, has paid a courtesy visit to Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu to foster closer collaboration between the Ombudsman’s Office and the Sierra Leone Police.
The meeting, held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess at Kingtom Police Barracks, aimed to strengthen institutional ties and lay the groundwork for a future Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations.
During the discussion, Ombudsman Tondoneh highlighted the need for training in handling issues of maladministration and bias, in line with the mandate of his office. He proposed the appointment of a liaison officer to ensure effective communication and cooperation between the two entities.
IGP Sellu welcomed the initiative, stressing that the police force operates under Rule 47, which governs officer conduct. He noted that while some complaints may be unfounded, all legitimate concerns are carefully addressed through due process.
The Police Chief also revealed that the disciplinary laws of the Sierra Leone Police are currently under review. He confirmed that Mr. Francis Moses Towah, Director of Professional Standards, will serve as the liaison officer between the police and the Ombudsman’s Office.
IGP Sellu concluded by reaffirming the police force’s commitment to working collaboratively with the Ombudsman to enhance public service delivery across the country
