Opposition leader Honourable Abdul Kargbo has strongly rejected recent claims by The Gambia and Liberia that drugs are being trafficked through Sierra Leone.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Kargbo said the allegations are “creating a false picture” of the country. “Sierra Leone is not responsible for drugs in The Gambia or Liberia,” he told lawmakers, adding that he was “mad at them” for making such claims.

The debate reportedly escalated into a bitter argument, with Kargbo insisting that neighbouring states should not tarnish Sierra Leone’s reputation without evidence. He noted, however, that just a month after the parliamentary debate, a vehicle belonging to an embassy in Guinea was seized with cocaine.

“We cannot keep quiet about that. They are the people that are tainting the image of this country. We should lash them,” Kargbo said, calling for strong action against those spreading false accusations.

The opposition leader’s remarks come amid growing regional concern over cross-border drug trafficking and increasing efforts by Sierra Leonean authorities to secure national borders.
