Eleven young Sierra Leoneans, recipients of the 2025 Chevening Scholarships, have joined hundreds of scholars from across the globe at the Chevening Orientation 2025 held at London’s ExCeL Centre.
The annual flagship event, organised by the Chevening Secretariat under the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is designed to inspire leadership, foster international connections, and equip scholars for an impactful year of academic and personal growth in the United Kingdom.
The orientation featured keynote speeches, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities aimed at encouraging participants to reflect on how they can translate their studies into transformative change in their respective countries.
Representing a wide range of professional backgrounds, the eleven Sierra Leonean scholars embody the core values of the Chevening Programme leadership, collaboration, and service.
Upon completion of their studies, they are expected to return home with advanced skills and global insights to contribute meaningfully to Sierra Leone’s national development agenda.
Established in 1983, the Chevening Scholarship remains one of the UK’s most prestigious international programmes, offering future leaders the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies while strengthening global partnerships and cooperation.
Over the years, numerous Sierra Leoneans have benefited from this initiative, becoming part of a global network of Chevening alumni driving progress in diverse sectors.
