The long-standing partnership between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was reaffirmed on October 17, as the Ministry of Social Welfare distributed parcels of fresh beef to members of Freetown’s polio-affected community.

Made possible through Saudi support, the donation was more than a gesture of charity; it symbolized international friendship and a shared commitment to human dignity.

Over fifty beneficiaries gathered at Central Park to receive their parcels in an event marked by gratitude and hope. Leading the exercise, Minister of Social Welfare Melrose Karminty praised Saudi Arabia for its continued compassion toward vulnerable Sierra Leoneans.

“This is what true partnership looks like,” Minister Karminty said. “When our friends support us, we ensure it reaches those who need it most. Together, we’re building a culture of empathy and inclusion.”

Representatives from the polio community lauded both the ministry and its partners for their consistency. Ishmael K. Gborie, Chairman of the Disabled Persons Association, noted, “It’s not only the meat we value, but the recognition that we are seen and remembered.”

The Acting Director of Religious Affairs, John Content, highlighted the religious and humanitarian essence of the gesture, saying it reflects the values of compassion and unity shared by both nations.

The event reaffirmed the ministry’s mission to strengthen inclusion and foster partnerships that translate goodwill into tangible community impact.
